New tool on web in crime war

Residents in South Ribble have a new tool they can use in their fight against crime.

The South Ribble Neighbourhood Watch website was launched thanks to funding from the South Ribble Community Safety Partnership and the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime.

The website, www.south-ribble-nwa.org.uk, includes details of every street in South Ribble covered wholly or partly by a neighbourhood watch scheme, details of who to contact if you want to join an existing scheme or start a new scheme and the latest news information.

It also includes newsletters and details of crimes and criminal activity to be aware of, crime prevention advice and links to other relevant web sites.

Peter Tickle, the Community Crime Prevention Officer for South Ribble said: "The formation of the South Ribble Neighbourhood Watch Association and the subsequent launch of the website are significant improvements in relation to neighbourhood watch in our area.

"It demonstrates what can be done when members of the public band together and work with the police and other agencies for the good of their communities.

"By developing and improving neighbourhood watch and the service provided to members of neighbourhood watch schemes South Ribble can become an even safer place to live."

There are currently 142 neighbourhood watch schemes in South Ribble covering over 7000 households – an increase of 34 since April 2004.

The SRNWA was formed in March 2005 and is an organisation run by neighbourhood watch co-ordinators for the benefit of neighbourhood watch schemes throughout the South Ribble area.
