Preston is to get a new Scout group to serve the central area of the city.
The new group will be launched in January and will be backed by the Salvation Army.
Fundraising for Preston Central Scouts will begin this Saturday with a community carol service at the Salvation Army HQ in Harrington Street.
“I’m a great believer in the Scout movement,” said Capt Alex Cadogan.
“It is such a positive thing for young people to be involved in given the challenges of the area we are in here.”
The Salvation Army is parnering with the Scout movement to fund the new group.
It will begin with cub scouts and the hope is the group will eventually grow to include seniors.
Admission to Saturday’s concert is free and there will be a hotpot supper.
The evening will include a collection to “try and kickstart” the fundraising programme.
