A Preston travel agent has won a national competition.

Carol Kirkham, the founder of independent agents Kirkham Travel on Blackpool Road, Preston, scooped top prize in the Celebrity Cruises Masterchef Competition 2012, for her chocolate and pear cheesecake, served with a poached pear and Belgian chocolate sauce.

The Weeton resident had to take part in a live cook-off in Southampton, Hampshire, on-board the Celebrity Ecplise.

Her delicious dessert wowed the judges, to secure her a prize of a cruise holiday to a destination of her choice.

Carol said: “I love cooking and entertaining, I find it relaxing.

“The idea for the dish was things I love to eat – who can resist chocolate? But adding fruit means it is not as high in calories.

“It was a fantastic day, and to actually cook in a ship’s galley.

“That is something most people can only dream about.”
