Mum embarks on 'schoolgirl' charity walk

A 49-year-old mum from Preston does a charity walk to work - dressed in a St Trinian's schoolgirl uniform.

The last time Vivienne Riding wore a school uniform Concorde was making its maiden commercial flight, the first pictures were beamed from Mars and Harold Wilson was Prime Minister.

But Vivienne, of Singleton Close, Fulwood, has once again donned a school uniform for a charity walk to work.

Every day Vivienne, who works as a caravan finisher, at Lunar Caravans, in Sherdley Road, Lostock Hall, walks around seven miles to work every day.

But on Friday, when she set out from home at 5.30am, she was wearing a St Trinian's schoolgirl uniform, in a bid to raise money for the Alzeimer's Society.

She said: "I am doing it because my husband's father had it for the last six months of his life and my friend has been looking after her mum and she works as well.

"I have been getting to know what it is like – it is very hard.

"It can happen to anybody when they get old."

One of Vivienne's friends gave her the idea of walking to work dressed as a schoolgirl and her sons Mark, 29, and Neil 25, are right behind her.

She said: "They think it is funny."

Earlier this month, the Lancashire Evening Post reported barmaid Charlotte Robinson, 25, raised hundreds of pounds by taking part in a semi-nude skydive.

Charlotte, from Catterall, raised more than 600 for the North West Air Ambulance.
