Mum and daughter sacked from board

A community champion has been sacked from her director's position on a Preston estate's management board.

Christine Winstanley left her post following a majority vote at a meeting of the Moor Nook Estate Management Board (EMB).

The vote saw the 58-year-old, and her daughter and fellow board member Angela Ayres removed from their posts.

Ms Winstanley's other daughter, fellow director Keira Pinto, 24, resigned her position.

During the meeting resident members, 11 board members, and their legal advisors discussed how, following a statutory audit, it had been discovered funds had been unaccounted for, and the responsibility for the unaccounted sum was that of Christine Winstanley.

Ms Winstanley, of Marl Hill Crescent, has worked for the estate for 15 years. She was voluntarily involved with at least six different committees and organised a host of community events in recent years.

She has sat on or chaired various boards including Community Gateway's tenant's forum, the Community Forum, and One Voice neighbourhood management.

The Moor Nook Estate Management Board (EMB) board is a not-for-profit company fully owned by its resident members who live on the estate.

A spokesman said: "The meeting was called due to the board's auditors confirming financial irregularities.

"Upon discovery of the unaccounted funds, the board removed Christine and Angela from their positions, and requested resignations from all three."

She added: "The EMB will now complete their annual financial audit which will be presented to the next Annual General Meeting in September, 2009."

The Evening Post tried to contact the Winstanley family, but they were unavailable for comment.
