A bereaved mum has been walking a mile a day in October in memory of her daughter Rose.

This month is Baby Loss Awareness Month and so Sarah Atkinson is walking a mile every day to raise awareness of the impact of baby loss.

We at Aching Arms all know the heartbreak of losing a baby and I believe it is so important that we talk about these issues.

She is also hoping to raise funds for charity Aching Arms, which aims to bring comfort to families following the loss of a baby during pregnancy, birth or shortly after.

Sarah is one of the trustees of the charity, which provides comfort bears to hospitals across the UK for midwives to give to newly bereaved families and it also sends bears directly to those who request them via the website www.achingarms.co.uk, Facebook or Twitter.

There are now 34 hospitals across the UK offering Aching Arms bears and in the last year more than 800 comfort bears have been given in hospitals or sent directly to bereaved families.

Aching Arms was formed in 2010 by a group of bereaved mothers who wanted to do something to honour their babies’ memories and reach out to others. It became a registered charity in 2013.

The 36-year-old, who owns Bunny’s Moggy’s Doggy’s Pet Supplies, in Chorley, lost her daughter Rose in September 2012.

She said: “I wanted to do this because it is a way of doing something positive in memory of Rose.

Some of the other trustees and volunteers at Aching Arms are also either walking or running a mile a day in memory of their babies.

We also hope that we might raise some funds for Aching Arms at the same time.

“The impact of pregnancy and baby loss is devastating. We at Aching Arms all know the heartbreak of losing a baby and I believe it is so important that we talk about these issues.”

Sarah is married to Neil and they have a one-year-old daughter, Florence.
