Mrs Cooper said: “I am absolutely and totally opposed to the recommendation for dementia in-patient care to be located in Blackpool.
“It never fails to amaze me how health bureaucrats never put the patients’ needs first but rather what is the easiest option for them.
“The Blackpool site option was opposed during the original consultation at the beginning of the year.
“Despite this it was still the recommended site. Now after a second review and continuing opposition it still remains the recommended preferred site.
“ For me sending West Lancashire residents to Blackpool for dementia care is simply not an option and will never be accepted.”
She added: “West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group is responsible for deciding on these services.
“I am calling on them to reject this recommendation. I am calling on them to stand up and put West Lancashire dementia patients and their families first.
“There are other providers, such as Merseycare who are significantly closer, that offer these services. Local residents wouldn’t be forced to travel 50 miles to get to the unit.
“Imagine trying to visit a loved one in Blackpool using public transport.”
