A van driver escaped unhurt after crashing into the central reservation of the M6.

Emergency services were called to the crash northbound between junctions 34 at Lancaster North and 35 at Carlisle at around 2.45pm on Saturday.

The male driver had managed to get himself out of the vehicle and firefighters were called to make sure no fuel or chemicals had spilled on to the road.All lanes were closed while the scene was assessed, then a rolling road block was set up to get stationary traffic moving. Tailbacks reached back towards Preston.
