More than 60 firefighters tackle Lancashire blaze

Residents living near a Lancashire industrial estate were evacuated after a massive fire broke out.

There were fears chemicals at the Hoo Hill Industrial Estate, Layton, Blackpool, could cause an explosion.

More than 60 firefighters, eight fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were called to the estate just before 7pm on Wednesday.

Two double decker buses took 65 local people, including 16 from a nursing home, to a pre-arranged rest centre.

Graham Curry, of Lancashire ambulance who was at the scene, said: "Thankfully we have had no reports of any injuries but some of our paramedics are on hand should anyone experience any medical problems.

"There is a real Blitz spirit amongst the evacuees and everyone is being extremely co-operative."

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the blaze involved both the ground floor and first floors of the buildings covering an area of 80m by 30m.
