Miss Lancashire has just returned from a trip of a lifetime to Mauritius with fellow beauty contest winners.

Mary-Kate McKay, who was crowned Miss Preston Guild in 2012 and later named Miss Lancashire, spent seven days on the paradise island after coming runner up in this year’s Miss England competition.

The 24-year-old joined Miss England Carina Tyrell and runner up Holly Desai for the visit - and they also met I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here star Amy Willerton.

During the stay the girls visited charities and spent time with ministers as well as enjoying a photo shoot on the beach.

The former Leyland St Mary’s High School student said: “It was a working trip, it has been absolutely chock-a-block.

“We met Amy out there, she is a really wonderful girl. She was out there shooting for her 2015 calendar. We went to the George Charles Foundation, they look after severely disabled people from really young babies to people in their 40s.

“I had incredible conversations with the people and the minister. Everyone was very genuine.”

The trip came about because Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) is the sponsor of Miss England so the competition winner is invited to the island each year.

This time, following the contest in June, first, second and third place winners were invited.

Meeting formed Miss Universe Amy Willerton was an added bonus for the trio.

Mary-Kate said: “Amy is phenomenal. She is a very smart woman. I see her as another female with a vision for herself. I value her as a friend.”

She added: “The trip was about building strong relationships.

“I made quite a lot of contacts. I would like to spend more time there, one on one working with the families.”

Mary who was living in Chorley until recently has just moved to Manchester to take up a presenting job.
