Michael Shields announcement due

Confusion surrounds the possible release of jailed Liverpool football fan Michael Shields after the Justice ministry said there would be an announcement over the next few days.

Shields, 22, was jailed for 15 years in Bulgaria in 2005 for the attempted murder of a barman following Liverpool's European Cup victory in Turkey.

Shields was locked up and his sentence was reduced to 10 years on appeal.

He was transferred to the UK and is currently at Haverigg in Cumbria.
