Men ordered to give up 'drugs' cash

Two men found with hoardes of cash tainted with traces of drugs have been ordered to forfeit the money.

Police recovered 33,510 in cash contaminated with cannabis from Christopher Darragh's business premises following the execution of a search warrant issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act in May last year.

Darragh, of Todd Lane North, Lostock Hall, said he was holding the vast majority of the money for a friend who is a convicted drug dealer serving a custodial sentence.

He claimed he sold some cars for him so that he could satisfy a confiscation order made in a court in southern England but police discovered the cars were sold months before.

Chorley magistrates ordered Darragh forfeit the money after deciding it was from the proceeds of crime.

In a similar case, David Craven, of Far Lane, Penwortham, was ordered to forfeit 3,810 by Chorley magistrates.

The money was seized by police in November 2008 and tests showed it was contaminated with class A drugs.
