A baker from Preston is putting her money where her mouth is by donating all of her business profits to charity.
For one week only, Mazeda Khanam of Teil Green, Fulwood, will ask her customers for donations of whatever amount they wish, rather than the usual £25 that she charges for her cakes to raise funds for Oxfam.
Married mum-of-three, Mazeda said: “After my youngest went to school full time I wanted to go back to work but couldn’t find anything suitable.
“I love all things creative such as henna, makeup, hair styling, nail artistry, painting, designing and have always had a passion for colour and form since I was little and I qualified as a beautician and nail technician last year from Preston College.
She added: “However, my love for cakes and the sheer passion of decorating them, and on the advice of family and friends led me to ‘Love Cakes’ and, as charity has always been at the bottom of my heart, I decided to do bit of both.”
Each cake takes a couple of hours to make, with the fondant decorations taking most of her time.
Mazeda said: “They can be quite fiddly but I make them and store them up ready to use.”
‘Love Cakes by Maz’ was started when Mazeda baked for friends and family, working around school runs for her two sons and daughter.
The 29-year-old has pledged to donate 100 per cent of the taking for each cake ordered between April 21 and 27.
There is no obligation to pay more than what the cake is worth - simply pay as much, or as little, as you like.
She said: “Every little helps for charity.
“My husband and I do as much as we can for charity, he does bike rides and so on and we’re always thinking of ways we can help out other people.
“If we can’t help others out, what is the point in life?
“Maybe one day we will run a business that is solely in aid of charity but for now, this is one way I can do my bit.”
