When Mary-Kate McKay went to support the finalists of Miss Preston she didn’t expect to be winning a top title herself.
Mary-Kate, the Miss Preston Guild 2012 winner, found out that she had been awarded the Miss Lancashire title - and to top of an amazing night she found out that she had been made the Miss England deputy.
The 23-year-old, who used to live in Ashton, Preston, but now lives in Chorley came third in the Miss England contest earlier this year. However the second place winner who became the deputy has had to withdraw from the role which means Mary-Kate will step up to the position.
“It was just a complete and utter shock,” she said, “I can’t put it into words. I am so grateful that someone believed in me that much to invest that in me and allow me another chance at Miss England. I feel overwhelmed and blessed that some one would offer me that position.
On the night, Mary-Kate who works in marketing, was awarded the Miss Lancashire title for all the effort she has put in since scooping the Miss Preston Guild title last year.
The new title means she automatically gets a direct entry to the Miss England finals in 2014.“My responsibilities have gone up a notch,” she said “It is really exciting, there is a whole new realm of responsibility.
“Anything that comes up in Lancashire, charity events, or anything that I can promote, I want to get involved in, I have the ability to that. It is so exciting.”
As well as working, volunteering at Longton Community Church, over the next year Mary-Kate will be getting ready for the Miss England finals, it will be the last time she can enter the contest, because the cut off age is 24.
