Heating and improved parking are just two ways that councillors are planning to secure the future of Morecambe’s market.
At a cabinet meeting of Lancaster Council this week they agreed to short-term measures to ensure that the Festival Market was sustainable.
As well as proposing that the building should be insulated or heated, they said that coach parking would be upgraded and there would be more emphasis on marketing.
The council will also look at ways of ensuring the long-term future of the popular market.
These will be made in the context of the Morecambe Area Action Plan, which is currently being drafted, and are likely to involve consultation with traders and shoppers.
Festival Market Trader Karen Kay said: “This is a reassuring and positive step forward.”
