Man turned to crime to pay gambling habit

An electrician who turned to crime after becoming addicted to playing online poker has been sentenced to 12 months' supervision.

Simon Parker, 22, of Sunnybowers, Derby Road, Wesham, who admitted fraud, was also ordered to pay 60 costs by Blackpool magistrates.

Wendy Evans, proecuting, said Parker and his friend Daniel Bassett used the Internet to gamble on a poker playing site in July.

They were given permission by Daniel's father Arthur to use his bank details to pay.

But in August Parker continued to play. He used his friend's father's financial details without his permission and ran up a debt of 1,367.

Kathryn Edwards, defending, said her client, who had no previous convictions, had now realised he was addicted to gambling and joined Gamblers Anonymous.
