Man's threat to kill his family
A shopkeeper attacked his wife in front of their six-year-old daughter while armed with a knife and threatened to kill all of them, a court heard.
Arvind Pindoria had launched the attack because he wrongly thought his wife was having an affair and lunged at her in their shop in Pemberton.
Pindoria, a strict Hindu, was also angry because she had apparently allowed a shop worker to fry eggs, which is against his religion.
The attack was captured on CCTV and a five minute edited DVD was shown at Liverpool Crown Court in which the incident was clearly seen.
He has served the equivalent of nine months imprisonment while on remand following his arrest and Judge Adrian Lyon placed him under supervision for two years.
He also ordered him to carry out 200 hours unpaid work and placed him under a three month curfew between 9pm - 6 am with an electronic tag.
But he said that the sentence was a direct alternative to two years imprisonment and warned him that if he breaches the order he will be jailed.
Pindoria, of Ormskirk Road, Pemberton, had pleaded guilty to making threats to kill his wife, Jagruti and affray.
Amos Waldman, defending, said that 44-year-old Pindoria has never been in trouble before.
Mr Waldman said: "He does not seek to minimise what must have been a traumatic incident, particularly for his daughter."
He had put the knife away before making the threats to kill and the whole incident had been out of character. He runs two stores and is normally a hard working law abiding man.
After he is released he plans to live above one of his shops while his wife lives above the other one but eventually hopes that they will return to living together in the future.
His wife, who was in the public gallery with a friend who had written a letter of support for Pindoria, left court in tears.
