A man turned to crime because his wife had been ill and he wanted to put a smile back on her face.
Keith Turner stole some clothes his wife had liked after looking at them in a shop.
Turner, 47, of Larches Avenue, Preston, pleaded guilty to theft.
He was given a 12-months conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs with £15 victims’ surcharge by Blackpool magistrates.
Prosecutor Martine Connah said on May 24 at 3.20pm Turner was see in Asda, Cherry Tree Road, Marton, putting clothes in a bag and leaving without paying for them.
When interviewed by police Turner said his wife had been ill and had recently been diagnosed with diabetes. She had looked at some clothes in the store and liked them, but he could not afford to buy them. He added that he wanted to put the smile back on her face.
