Firefighters had to break in to a Lancaster flat to save a man trapped inside.

A fire alarm at the property on Dalton Square alerted neighbours at around 4.30am on Saturday.

Fire crews had to force their way into the flat after it was reported the was someone trapped inside.

One man was taken to hospital following the incident but he was not thought to be seriously hurt.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "The fire alarm went off and alerted occupants in the block of flats.

"We arrived and broke in and rescued one male.

"He was suffering the effects a little. He was taken to hospital but I think he has been released.

"There was light damage to the property."
