A man was rescued by firefighters following a blaze in a bin compound at the rear of houses.

The man was said to be suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation and needed treatment from paramedics at the scene.

Fire crews were called to Harewood, Astley Village, Chorley at around 4.15am on Monday.

They used breathing apparatus and a hose reel to tackle what was described as a “small fire” in the bin compound.
