A man was hit repeatedly with a metal bar in what police are describing as a ‘nasty’ assault.

The victim, a 20-year-old man, was walking through an alley near to Grafton Road when he was approached from behind and struck to the head with what is believed to be a metal bar.

He fell to the floor where he was struck again to his head.

As he tried to get up he was repeatedly struck to his body.

He managed to run away and sought assistance from a member of the public.

He later received treatment at Royal Lancaster Infirmary for his injuries, which included cuts to the front and back of his head and bruising to his body.
