A popular recreation ground is set for a makeover as plans to improve the play and community facilities have been announced.
Coronation Recreation Ground, off Devonshire Road, Chorley, is set to get a new playground, a multi-use games area and a café and community hub.
This is to improve facilities in the area and will be funded by Chorley Council and an £8,000 grant from the Tesco and Groundwork Bags of Help initiative.
The plans also include the restoration of the fencing and surface of the single tennis court, as well as work to restore and maintain the stone retaining walls.
The announcement comes after a public consultation.
Councillor Adrian Lowe, who oversees parks and open spaces at the council, described Coronation Recreation Ground, which first opened in 1902, as a “much-loved community park”.
He said: “However, it is now starting to look dated.
“In the last 12 months we have been speaking to people to look at ways we can improve the park and it is that feedback that has shaped the plans for these future developments.
“The council is investing £250,000 in the new facilities and we were delighted to learn that Tesco shoppers had also voted for the project to receive a grant from the Bags of Help initiative, which saw grants raised from the 5p bag levy being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects.
“We are excited to be able to improve another play area and we hope it will encourage more people to get out and about and use local facilities.”
The improvement announcements come after consultation exercised revealed these are the areas of Coronation Recreation Ground where people want to see improvements.
Plans of the development will be made available for further public consultation in the next few months.
Anyone who wishes to have their say on the works is advised to continue checking the notice boards at Coronation Recreation Ground for updates and opportunities to get involved.
Work is expected to start later this year and should be complete in spring 2017.
