Rail passengers are facing major delays due to an incident near Lancaster.
British Transport Police said they were called to a road over rail bridge on Marine Drive at Hest Bank, near Lancaster at 9.15am on Wednesday morning where a man was “threatening to harm himself.”
At midday they were still in attendance trying to bring the man down safely from the bridge.
All trains have been stopped in the area. A stretch of the line between Preston and Carlisle is closed and replacement bus journeys are being put on.
Dozens of passengers have been hit by the delays.
A spokesman for Virgin Trains said southbound trains were being terminated at Carlisle and northbound trains are being terminated at Preston.
He said 27 coaches are on order to transport passengers, 19 of those will be for passengers at Preston station, four in Lancaster and four in Carlisle.
