M-way crash sparks chaos
A woman was taken to hospital with head injuries after a car collided with an HGV, rolled across a motorway and ended up balancing on the central reservation.
The smash, involving a gold-coloured Citreon car and an HGV, happened at around 9.30am yesterday between junctions 30 and 31 at Preston on the northbound M6.
Police said the car flipped across several lanes before coming to rest on the central reservation.
Amazingly, the woman driver of the car walked away with no serious injuries, but firefighters had to cut her passenger out of the vehicle.
She was complaining of neck injuries and had a cut to her head, according to Bamber Bridge watch manager Mark Noblet.
The North West Air Ambulance landed in a nearby field. She was eventually taken to the Royal Preston Hospital by land ambulance.
Mr Noblet said: "The car rolled over into the central reservation and ended up with its front end in the air..
"The driver had minor injuries and managed to walk out, but the passenger had suffered a head injury. Police shut off lanes three and four of the northbound M6 and the fourth lane of the southbound side for around 90 minutes while the accident was cleared, sparking tailbacks as far back as Chorley on the M61.
The Highways Agency reported delays of up to one hour on the northbound carriageway.
Just after 11am the road was reopened.
Meanwhile, a woman driver was cut out of her car after it collided with the central reservation.
Emergency services crews were called to the southbound M6 at 1.30pm on Wednesday following reports a Ford Fiesta had lost control near Fulwood, Preston.
Firefighters freed the woman and one lane of the motorway was closed between junction 32 and 31a.
