Longton WI - February 2009

Our Monthly meeting was a very interesting talk about shire horses. This was given by Mr D Kay.

The speaker used to work for Thwaites Brewery of Blackburn.

He was instrumental in bringing the Shire Horses backing the early 1960s since their demise in 1928.

First the stable block and housing had to be renovated before reconditioned equipment could be bought.

They then bought the horses. The horses are seen at, Horse of the Year Show and County Shows.

Our Talk at the end of the month was by Mr and Mrs Seddon, 'Development of a Woodside Garden'.

This was a talk with slides about how they had created a two thirds of an acre Garden from nothing and how it had evolved over 33 years years.

They had been members of the National Garden Scheme.

But now open occasionally for their local hospice.
