Woman’s body found at Preston Docklands

Incident: The scene at Preston Docks yesterday

Incident: The scene at Preston Docks yesterday

A woman’s body was pulled out of the water at Preston Docks after she was reported missing just hours earlier by her husband.

Police said the 58-year-old, who has not been named, was discovered at around 11am yesterday, in water near to the Ribble Pilot pub, off Mariners Way in Preston.

Her death is not being
treated as suspicious.

A Lancashire Police
spokesman said: “Police were called this morning after a 58-year-old woman was
reported missing from home by her husband.

“At around 11am, her car was located at the docks in Preston and a short time later Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, who were near the scene taking part in a training exercise, pulled a body of a woman out of the water.

“We believe it to be the body of the missing woman and her family have been informed.

“At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

A Lancashire Fire and
Rescue Service spokesman said a crew from Preston were practising a water rescue using an inflatable boat at the time of the incident.

He said: “The firefighters were doing some minor training, and by coincidence while they were there, they were notified about a body in the water.

“They were equipped in the water rescue boat to retrieve the body.”
