A woman is in a serious condition and a vehicle reportedly set on fire following a bad road collision in Leyland today (Tuesday).

The accident happened at the junction of Bent Lane and Church Lane, near Balshaws High School, and emergency services were called at around 3pm.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “There has been a road traffic collision involving a car and pedestrian at the junction of Bent Lane and Church Road.

“A local woman in her 50s is in a serious condition and has been taken to the Royal Preston Hospital.

“Fire crews have also been called as there have been reports that a car was on fire.

“Accident investigators are on the scene and are carrying out a full investigation.

“We received the call at 14.48pm and have contacted Balshaw’s High School as we have had to close the road.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 101.”

It is believed the woman was out walking her dog when the accident happened.

Around 12 firefighters from Leyland and Bamber Bridge fire stations attended the scene, and assisted paramedics with first aid whilst making the area safe.

The woman had been released prior to the arrival of the fire and rescue service.

Roads in the immediate area have been closed off to vehicles, and police confirmed the areas are likely to be closed for a substantial period of time.
