Victim in bear hug

A Chinese student was held in a bear hug by a robber who tried to wrestle her £450 mobile phone from her as she made her way to a house party.

The 19-year-old woman, who is studying at UCLan and lives in student halls, was attacked at around 10.15pm on Wednesday at the corner of Havelock Street and Barlow Street in Plungington, Preston.

The thug, described as white, 5ft 10in tall, with blue eyes and mousy brown hair poking out beneath his hoodie, approached her from behind.

When she heard his footsteps she thought it was a friend playing a trick as she was texting a friend at the party, at a home on Havelock Street, at the time.

While he was wrestling with her, he pushed her over, causing grazes to her arm and leg, and she dropped her phone but managed to pick it back up.

However the robber then slapped her hands, making her drop it again.

He then ran away with the phone in his hand towards Aqueduct Street, in Plungington.

Det Sgt John Crichton, of Preston CID, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have information about the robbery to come forward.

“A black HTC phone was stolen.

“The girl suffered grazes during the robbery.”

Anyone with information should call Preston police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
