Vandals leave residents to count the cost

Vandals have left residents counting the cost after going on a wrecking spree in Bamber Bridge.

Hammer-wielding yobs are believed to have smashed into a caravan, robbed a garage and broken a car window during the incident last week.

Resident Rennie Frankland, 72, of Bridge Street, says he has been left with a £700 repair bill after the vandals broke into his caravan and entered his detached garage.

He said he discovered the crime after returning from work on November 7.

He also found that the 40 cans of lager had been stolen from his garage.

He said: “I went to work at 12 o’clock and when I came back at 2.30pm so it must have happened in that short space of time.

“One of my neighbours said they saw a group of four school lads wearing a green uniform and one attacked my caravan with a hammer.

“The front window is smashed and one on the side.

“They must have climbed in because they’ve also damaged one of the doors inside.”

Around the same time vandals hurled a stone through the
window of a Ford Fiesta parked on nearby Carr Street

Mr Frankland said that the
culprits has been seen by more than one person who witnessed the boys drinking the Fosters
lager in nearby Holme Park.

Mr Frankland, a coalman, said he was uninsured and would have to foot the £700 bill from his own pocket.

A police spokesman confirmed the damage to the Azure caravan, which was parked at the side of Mr Frankland’s home.

The spokesman said: “We
understand a group of four or five males aged 13,14 or 15 were seen in the area at that time.

“One was wearing a green coat or blazer under an overcoat. One was of mixed race.”

If you have information about the incident call Lancashire
police on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
