Two rescued from house fires

TWO people have been rescued from their homes by firefighters in separate incidents on the Fylde.

A woman, believed to be aged in her mid 30s, was pulled out of a second floor flat in St Alban's Road, St Annes, after flames broke out at around 4pm on Saturday.

She was taken to Manchester Burns Unit to be treated for her injuries.

Fire crews had to break into the property and found the woman collapsed inside.

The fire caused extensive damage to the property. The cause is under investigation by the police and fire service.

Later the same night, crews were called to a blaze at an address in Chesterfield Road, Bispham.

They had to break into the property and firefighters Ian Armistead and Peter Duane carried a 28-year-old man to safety after he was found unconcious on the first floor.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

Severe fire and smoke damage was cause to the kitchen and other rooms in the house. The alarm was raised at about 8.30pm after a chip pan set alight.

Crew manager Mark Warwick, of Blackpool Fire Station, said: "The two firefighters did a great job in bringing the casualty to safety.

"They found him unconcious and were able to get him out. He would not have made it out on his own. Afterwards, he was talking, and was taken to hospital."
