TV star Marcquelle shows how to street dance with passion

One of the country's best-known street dancers is bringing the craze to Preston.

Marcquelle Ward, the star of ITV's Britannia High and BBC's DanceX, has started classes at the Dance With Passion school in the city to teach local children some moves.

Street dancing has seen a surge in popularity with the success of group Diversity, which won this year's Britain's Got Talent show.

Marcquelle said: "Programmes like Britain's Got Talent, Britannia High and DanceX, they have promoted the style even more so it is easier to get it out there.

"It is your interpretation with the music, you move with the music, as long as you move with how you feel to the music, that is street dance.

"I want to bring my charisma, style and what I have known over the years. It is a socially-orientated movement which gives kids something to do instead of hanging out on the streets, I think it is a good thing."

The 23-year-old held his first classes for three age groups of youngsters, from under-12 years to over-16s, at the school's studio on London Road.

School founder Shemayne Parkinson said it hoped to be able to get together a street dancing team from local youngsters capable of competing in the event's world championships.
