Tributes have been paid to a former Preston student who has died while travelling in Vietnam on New Year’s Day.

Jake O’Grady, a former pupil of Our Lady’s High School in Lancaster, had been backpacking around south east Asia and was due to attend a New Year party at a hostel in Hanoi.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is liaising with his family. They have not confirmed how he died.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are aware of the death of a British national in Hanoi, Vietnam on January 1, 2014.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”

Dozens of tributes to Jake, who attended Preston’s College, have been posted on his Facebook page.

One said: “I can’t quite believe you have been taken away from us so soon when your life adventure had only just begun... dance your way up to heaven, darling.”
