A family have paid tribute to grandfather who died earlier this year.
Stuart Beal, 90, died peacefully in his sleep on January 6 following a collision with a car in Clitheroe four days earlier.
Mr Beal, had moved to the town with his wife of 61 years, Pat, a year ago to be nearer to their son and family where they settled well and enjoyed the area and people they met.
In a statement his family, including his son, daughter and five granddaughters, said, “His family and friends will miss him greatly.
“He was loved by all for his insight, wit, and generosity and he loved a challenging discussion .
“We are comforted by the fact that he died peacefully in his sleep and was independent and in good form to the end.”
During the Second World War, Mr Beal travelled the world with the Merchant Navy, surviving a torpedo attack and navigating to safety.
A former senior partner in a successful civil and structural engineering company until his retirement in 1988, Mr Beal was adept with all modern technology, computing, phone and even Facebook.
An investigation is ongoing.
