Travellers leave city car park

Camp: Travellers set up camp on the car park site in Oliver's Way in Fulwood, Preston

A group of travellers have left a city car park after they were served an eviction notice.

Around eight cars, five caravans and three trailers arrived on the site, next to the Trans-Continental offices in Oliver’s Place, Fulwood, Preston, last Wednesday.

The travellers, who also brought horses to the car park, were said to have caused problems for the car park’s owners and the nearby business.

However, a Lancashire Police spokesman said the force had not received any reported incidents of crime or disorder.

Preston Council representatives visited the site last week.

Commercial property agent Roger Parker, who is the agent for the Oliver’s Place car park’s owner, said legal action was being taken to force the travellers to move on.

Bailiffs put up copies of a court order on Friday stating that the travellers had until Monday to vacate the land.

And on Monday night the travellers abandoned the makeshift camp, leaving behind several bags of rubbish.
