Transport police probing six incidents
Risk: Hunt is on for Preston Railway Station trespasser
Police are hunting a man who risked his life by trespassing on the lines at Preston railway station.
The man was caught on CCTV cutting across the rails at the busy city station on August 27 and today British Transport Police revealed they are investigating six trespassing incidents in Lancashire in a week.
And they are still hunting the man in this latest incident, who was a passenger at the station, as they urged others to be aware of the dangers.
Insp Adrian Yorston, of Preston BTP, said: “Over the last week we have had six incidents of trespass on the railway tracks in Lancashire including one at Preston station itself.
“The main offenders are young males.
“We have seen problems across the area with youngsters messing about on the tracks and I want them to be aware of the risks they are taking.
“Anyone who trespasses onto the railway is taking a huge gamble with their own lives.
“The railway is an inherently dangerous environment, with high speed trains and electric currents, and it should never be treated as a playground or somewhere to hang about.”
He added: “Sadly some youngsters are also risking the lives of others by throwing stones and other objects at passing trains.
“The damage caused to trains is unacceptable however it is only through good fortune that we have not had to deal with a much more serious incident.
“I cannot over estimate the danger posed by people who get some sort of kick out of throwing things at trains. Even a small stone thrown at a moving train can cause serious injury if it hits a window or someone on board the train. Youths are, without doubt, putting lives at risk.”
