A thug launched a racist attack on a man in his flat in Preston.

Gareth Cornthwaite, 34, of Bairstow Street, Avenham, pleaded guilty to wounding Jonathan Palgrave.

Preston Crown Court heard Cornthwaite was looking for items which were missing after a break-in at a friend’s property when he discovered X-box games outside one of the apartments in the building.

Cornthwaite went to the room, where Mr Palgrave was staying and threw a glass at him, shouting racist abuse.

The glass smashed on the back of Mr Palgrave’s head.

Recorder Chris Hudson said: “You can’t behave in that fashion”, and jailed him for 18 months.
