Thug jailed for city centre attack

Jason Simpson, sentenced to 15 months in prison for GBH

Jason Simpson, sentenced to 15 months in prison for GBH

A man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after he was found guilty of an attack in a city centre bar.

Jason Simpson, 23, of Larches Avenue, Ashton, Preston, punched a man who fell to the floor in Yates’s Wine Lodge in Church Street, Preston, at around 12.30am on January 20 last year.

The victim was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he was treated for a serious head injury.

Simpson fled the scene but was tracked by police on a radio system and caught nearby.

He was found guilty of unlawful wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm.

DC Marcus Latham said he was pleased with the conviction at Preston Crown Court.

He said: “The victim has received extensive injuries before Mr Simpson has attempted to make off from the scene.

“The swift response from staff members at Yates’s and the ambulance service and my uniformed colleagues deserves praise.

“Alcohol fuelled violence will not be tolerated. The victim has received potentially life changing injuries.”
