Thieves target phone owners
Thieves are targeting mobile phone owners in bars in Preston city centre, police have claimed.
The warning follows a number of thefts of high value phones from people in the city centre where their owners are distracted and often under the influence of alcohol.
Last weekend, Lancashire Police recorded three separate reports of phones being stolen from MACs Bar on Friargate.
PCSO Stephen Connolly urged revellers to be vigilant and not leave their possessions unattended.
He said: “Keep a close eye on your possessions, especially whilst out socialising in busy pubs and clubs as there are increased opportunities for the thieves to target people and steal personal belongings.”
On Saturday night, a student reported an iPhone 4 being taken from her shoulder bag whilst in MACs Bar on Friargate with the same mobile taken from another student a short time later.
A Blackberry curve mobile phone was then stolen from a third student’s bag whilst it was on her shoulder.
There was another theft of an iPhone 4 shortly after midnight on Sunday from a reveller in Baluga in the Miller Arcade on Church Street, where the offender has unclipped a handbag as she stood waiting to be served at the bar and removed her phone.
