The questions some people ask...

Visitors to some of the UK's most historic sites have asked their guides some rather odd questions.

Here are some examples of the quirky questions asked by visitors to English Heritage properties:

* "Is this where Sharon and Ozzy actually live?" - A visitor to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight

* A misty day at Dover Castle and the Secret Wartime Tunnels in Kent prompted a tourist to ask: "What time do you switch the mist off?"

* Having been told that Cleeve Abbey in Somerset had once been the home of monks, a group of children visiting Cleeve Abbey in Somerset eagerly asked a member of site staff: "Where are the monkeys?"

* "Why did they build so many ruined castles and abbeys in England?", a tourist at Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire

* A little girl at Clifford's Tower, York: "Is this Clifford The big Red Dog's tower?" Upon a member of staff explaining that it was actually a castle, the little girl asked: "Is it a bouncy castle?"

* "Can you tell me where I can see the Hobbits?" - asked a visitor to Kenwood House in Hampstead

* After being told that Queen Victoria had nine children, a child on a school trip questioned: "Did they all have the same dad?" - a visitor to Osborne House on the Isle of Wight

* "How long does life membership last?" - a visitor to Osborne House, Isle of Wight

* "Are the tunnels underground?" - a visitor to Dover Castle and Secret Wartime Tunnels, Kent

* "Is that a man-made jetty?" - a visitor to Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland, pointing at a 300 million year old rock formation
