The armed police on Lancashire's streets

Lancashire's armed response units are called to an incident every single day and an increasing number in the city of Preston.

Four Armed Response Vehicles are on the roads of Lancashire at any given time, equipped with a semi-automatic carbine rifles, a Glock 17 handgun, a baton launcher a Taser stun gun and protection equipment.

All these weapons are on the streets of Preston and are being used in the war on guns and knives, which plague the city's streets.

Sgt Steve Bradshaw, of the armed response team, said: "Unfortunately there is a national trend of firearms crime and we need to look at it and see where we can focus in our local areas on this problem.

"We do have an issue with gun crime in Preston and for me it all stems from the drugs trade.

"The vast majority of firearms incidents in the city are one group of criminals against another group and you can bet that both are well known to us."
