A teenager was given a dressing-down by police after leaping from the first floor of Preston Bus Station onto a bus.

The 15-year-old was spotted on Monday jumping from the first level of the car park onto a double-decker bus, then onto a single-decker bus and to the ground before running off.

Today leaders have slammed the “irresponsible” behaviour, and warned others against the “extremely dangerous” actions.

The youngster was reported to police officers on Tuesday after being seen with a group in the bus station car park area, where the incident had happened the day before.

Police said via social media: “We’ve just stopped a young male near Preston Markets after he exhibited some very reckless behaviour on the bus station.

The statement continued: “He was seen by security staff jumping from the first level of the car park, onto a double-decker bus then onto a single-decker bus before jumping to the ground and running off.

“The male in question has been given very strong words of advice and will not be doing it again.”

Tony Moreton, Lancashire County Council’s assistant director for sustainable transport, said: “The potential consequences of this type of extremely dangerous behaviour should be all too obvious and we’re working with our security staff to deter these irresponsible actions.”

Coun Drew Gale, who represents the town centre ward, slammed the behaviour as “incredibly stupid”.

He said: “He could have killed himself. It’s not big, it’s not clever and somebody is going to get hurt.”
