Crime news

A takeaway delivery driver was punched and kicked by a pair of yobs who robbed him as he lay on the floor.

The man had been making a delivery to a home on Hamer Road in Ashton, Preston on Saturday night when a pair of hooded youths with a dog ran up to him, pushed him on the ground and attacked him.

Police believed the pair could have placed an order to a false address to set up the attack on the victim who has not been named. Det Sgt John Crichton, of Preston Police, said the man had been left badly bruised and shaken after being punched a kicked in the head, chest and legs.

He said: “He has been walking back to his car after the homeowner told him he had got the wrong address, and heard people running up behind him.

“Both the youth approached him and punched him to his head and body, he has offered them the food in a bid to to the attack, but they have pushed him to the ground and carried out.

“They have left him nearly unconscious on the street, taken the bag with the food in it and run off.

“It is obviously a terrifying thing to happen to this man and it has left him badly bruised and shaken.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw anything or has any information to get in touch with us.”

He added the youths had been seen heading in the direction of nearby Howarth Road carrying a red bag with the food order, worth £23, inside.

The first man is described as being white, between 25 and 30 years old with a short sleeved shirt and black hood. Police say the second man was white, between 25 and 30 years old, medium build with a black hood and face covering.

Anyone with any information on the attack should call Preston Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
