Police negotiators spent more than two hours coaxing a man down after he threatened to throw himself from the top of a city centre car park.
Officers attended the scene at Market Car Park in Ringway, Preston, at around 2.30pm on Friday.
The road was immediately closed and police began trying to talk the man down.
They said the man, wearing dark clothing, was sat on the corner of the building.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “By 4pm the man had come away from the edge of the car park and was talking to the negotiators. The man came down and he was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.”
The road was reopened at around 4.10pm.
