South Ribble Liberal Democrats have chosen Sue McGuire as their prospective parliamentary candidate to contest the seat at the 2015 general election.

Mrs McGuire is a local business woman who started her own IT company in 1990 with her husband, and is a Sefton Borough Councillor.

Mother of two teenagers, she grew up in the constituency in Banks, and went to Tarleton High and Hutton Grammar schools, before graduating from Newcastle University. A former North West Regional Chair of the Liberal Democrats, she was also a candidate at the 2009 European Elections.

She is keen to improve transport links in the area, including opening the Burscough Curves and Midge Hall station, and completing the Penwortham by-pass, and is also keen that the fracking process is properly scrutinised and regulated.

Constituency Chairman, Councillor David Howarth said “It is refreshing to have a candidate who grew up in the constituency and knows the area, especially the more remote villages that do not receive much attention.”
