Students robbed in park
Crime news
A pair of university students were robbed at knife-point in a Preston park.
The pair, who were 24 and 25 years old and from Saudi Arabia, were approached by a group of three youths as they sat in a shelter on the park close to the exit onto Ribblesdale Place at around 11.10pm on Friday night.
The group asked them for cigarettes which were handed over in an attempt to avoid a confrontation.
A fourth youth then arrived brandishing a small three-inch long “flick knife” and took a bag off the students and began rifling through its contents.
Det Sgt John Crichton, of Preston CID, said: “They then started to push and shove them in an attempt to get a reaction, before one of the students has grabbed the wrist of the lad with the knife to stop him coming any closer.
“The group has then made off with some cigarettes and left these two lads quite shaken.”
He added a police officer had spotted the group on Avenham Colonnade shortly after but, when he approached, the group scattered in different directions.
