A university student was more than twice the alcohol limit when she stopped her car in the middle of the road.

Police saw Alice Aitken’s boyfriend walking barefoot along Lytham Road, Warton, near Preston, then spotted her car in the middle of the highway surrounded by food from a takeaway.

Aitken, 19, of Warton Street, Lytham, who is studying child and family care at Lancaster University, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, without insurance or MOT.

She was banned from driving for 17 months, fined £200 with £35 costs and ordered to pay the £15 victims’ surcharge, by Blackpool magistrates.

Prosecutor, Martine Connah, said police saw Aitken’s Fiesta in the middle of the road with her sat inside. A breath test showed 76 micrograms of alcohol in her body - 35 is the limit.

Daniel Harman, defending, said Aitkin who had no previous convictions, had made a mistake and decided to drive to get a takeaway after drinking with her boyfriend and the couple then argued.
