A speeding driver avoided a road ban after a court heard it would cause him to lose his job, home and ability to care for his disabled partner.
Antony Johns, 53, of Sullom Side Lane, Barnacre, near Preston, admitted the offence and was fined £500 at Lancaster Magistrates’ Court.
Johns pleaded guilty to breaking the 30mph limit in a Land Rover in Garstang Road, St Michael’s on March 22 this year.
But magistrates decided against giving him a totting disqualification after hearing the hardship it would cause him.
They instead told him to pay a £500 fine, plus a £50 victim surcharge and £50 court costs, and handed him three penalty points.
