A college which helps support more people to become volunteer police officers has won an award.
Lancashire police has presented West Lancashire College with a certificate for its efforts to support special constables.
Chief Supt Stuart Williams, who oversees policing in Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire, presented Louise Dawson, the principal of the college, with the award at a ceremony in Skelmersdale.
He said: “West Lancashire College has been very dedicated to supporting special constables in their duties, ultimately helping to improve public safety in the area. It is only right that this is recognised.
“Officers in our Special Constabulary come from a variety of backgrounds and it is great to see local businesses offering them the support they need to take on this important role.
“Joining the specials can give a person a great sense of fulfilment – it gives them a chance to get involved with the community and make a real difference to the people living there.”
Lancashire has 403 special constables, 104 of whom work in the county’s Southern Division.
