Soldier, 29, assaulted by man on night out
CCTV image: The man police want to speak to
A probe has been launched after a serving soldier was hit three times in the face in an “unprovoked assault” whilst on a night out in Preston.
The 29-year-old serviceman, who lives in Leyland, was enjoying a night out with friends in the city when the assault happened.
It took place just after 3am on Sunday, September 2 outside Fishers, formally known as Wall Street, on Fishergate.
The man was walking past the bar area when another man became verbally abusive to some women friends he was with.
The soldier challenged the man – at which point he was punched three times in the face.
The blows caused him to suffer a burst lip.
Today detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after the assault.
The offender is described as Moroccan in appearance.
He was about 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build and clean shaven with short black hair.
He was wearing a white T-shirt with jeans and white trainers.
Det Cons Andrew Crook, from Preston CID, said: “The victim was merely walking past a pub minding his own business when he has been assaulted.
“Fortunately he was not injured badly and did not need hospital treatment but we need the public’s help to catch the person responsible.”
“The soldier was on a period of leave but has since returned to active duty.”
It is understood the soldier is stationed at Catterick, in Yorkshire. Anyone with any information about the attack should call Lancashire Police on 101.
People with information can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
