Twenty eight schools in Chorley, nine in South Ribble and one in Preston were closed today because of the snow.

A large number of after-schools clubs were also affected.

Lancashire County Council said St Mary’s RC High School and Sports College in Bamber Bridge would also be closed tomorrow, due to adverse weather conditions, except for pupils sitting GCSE exams.

Traffic across the county is currently remaining steady.

A spokesman for Miller Taxis, based in Brook Street, Preston, said: “We’ve not had any problems at all so far.

“In fact I’d say we’ve been busier than normal with people preferring to get us to drive than risking it themselves.”

A spokesman for Kirkham Taxis in Poulton Street, Kirkham, said: “The snow has been coming down in Kirkham, but the driver’s haven’t been doing too badly.

“We have had a few changes to normal though, with a lot of our school runs cancelled and people coming home early.”
